Diwali Poem
  • Indians celebrate DIWALI the festival of lights every year in November. It is a festival to mark the Victory of Good over evil as told in the myth of Lord Krishna killing the demon ruler Narakasura.
  • The celebration which began centuries ago with the burning of lambs[in the diyas floated on the running waters] has now acquired the dimension of sounds and fury with high decimal crackers being burst for almost four days. The act causes a lot of sound pollution and environmental pollution.
  • During and after the DIWALI festival of sounds and lights thousands of heart patients are put to immense torture, millions of canines, both pets at homes and the strays] are made to shiver and flee some of them die in road accidents, many birds and rodents are rendered lifeless and innumerable living beings underground perish for ever.
  • When man hijacks the earth for himself at times and turns insensitive to the life concerns of the other living beings.
  • Like during the DIWALI in India, if others do celebrate with crackers and fireworks wherever on the globe it may be, it is time to remind themselves of the great WRONG done.

#Diwali 2016 Short Poems in English
But are there not hearts woe-filled, very sad?
Denied of laughter, smiles for days;
Today’s the triumph of Good over bad;
But what about the wastage in much ways?
True joy is when you see someone else smile!
True charity gives joy in Heavenly style.

#Happy Diwali 2016 New Short Poems
Diwali is here, Diwali is here
That genial festival which celebrates victory
The ancient festival of myth and mystery
That is mentioned in both mythology and history
The festival that signals Triumph over Tragedy.

In English For Students

  • In 2016, Diwali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated on Month name by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit deepavali, which means a row of lights. For many Hindus, Diwali is also New Year’s Eve.
  • While Diwali is popularly known as the “festival of lights”, the most significant spiritual meaning is “the awareness of the inner light”. Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. The celebration of Diwali as the “victory of good over evil”, refers to the light of higher knowledge dispelling all ignorance, the ignorance that masks one’s true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With this awakening comes compassion and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings anand (joy or peace). Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Diwali is the celebration of this Inner Light.
  • The “row of lights” for which the festival is named are lit on the new-moon night to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. But in Bengal, it is the goddess Kali who is so honored, and in North India the festival also celebrates the return of Gods and Godesses Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman to the city of Ayodhya, where Rama’s rule of righteousness was inaugurated. Diwali is celebrated with a variety of rituals, which depend in large part on one’s location, but they center on the lighting of candles, electric lights and fireworks. Throughout the five-day festival, small earthenware lamps filled with oil are lighted and placed in rows along the tops of temples and houses and set adrift on rivers and streams.
  • The Diwali season is also significant to Sikhs. During the festival time in 1620, the sixth Guru, Hargobind Singh, gained the release of 52 Hindu princes who had been falsely imprisoned in Gwallior Fort by the rulers of the area, the Mughals. The Golden Temple of Amritsar was lit with many lights to welcome the release of Guru Hargobind; Sikhs have continued the tradition.
  • Jains also celebrate Diwali, as a celebration of the establishment of the dharma by Lord Mahavira. The festival’s lights symbolizes the light of holy knowledge that was extinguished with Mahavira’s passing.

Diwali 2016 Essays In Hindi For Students

Speech In English For Students

For the Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists celebrating Diwali this weekend, the Festival of Lights reaffirms the things in life that matter most.  Dancing, celebration, and good food remind us that life’s greatest joys are the simple pleasures that come from spending time with people we love.

Contemplation and prayer remind us that that people of all faiths have an obligation to perform seva, or service to others.  And the flame of the diya, or lamp, reminds us that light will ultimately triumph over darkness.  Here in the United States, Diwali also reminds us that our nation is home to many faiths and traditions, and that our diversity makes us stronger, which is why I’m proud that this year Democrats and Republicans in Congress joined together for the first-ever celebration of Diwali on Capitol Hill.

Over the last five years, Michelle and I have been honored to have the chance to observe this ancient holiday, both at the White House and in India, and we wish all those celebrating this weekend a Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak.

Diwali 2016 Speech In Hindi For Students
